press release from Sartorial Contemporary Art
curated by Jasper Joffe
Private View: MONDAY 7th APRIL 6.30-9pm
Sartorial Contemporary Art is pleased to present Supergraphic a show of three outstanding new artists. They are the painting and printmaking equivalent of watching an episode of CSI or a Paul Verhoeven film. You see things that make you squirm and feel a little queasy, but you can't look away as the knife crunches through bone with all the super graphic beauty that computers can generate.
Simon Collins shows us all the odds and ends of his world, from a chicken wing to a porn mag to a painter's palette in an amazing level of detail and with Hogarthian wit. James Unsworth combines an intense graphic beauty with disquieting scenes of murder, sex, and other mayhem, a nod to Bosch and a bash in the face. Paul Haworth takes a more laid back approach mixing dry humour with urgent brush strokes and a sense of google zeitgeist.
About the artists : Simon Collins graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2007 and will be exhibiting in Jerwood Contemporary Painters and has a solo show at Dollinger Art Project Tel Aviv in 2008. Paul Haworth finished at De Ateliers, Amsterdam in 2007 and has exhibited in the Koninklijke Prijs Gemeentemuseum, Den Haag. James Unsworth graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2006 and has exhibited widely since, his work has been featured in Dazed and Confused magazine and The Independent newspaper.
